Blood Glucose Test

With diabetes rapidly on the increase in Ireland and causing serious health risks, such as heart disease, blindness, kidney falure and pregnancy complications, we are happy to offer you glucose testing.

A blood glucose test measures the amount of a type of sugar called glucose, in the blood. Glucose is the main source of energy used by the body and it comes from foods that contain carbohydrates

The hormone Insulin helps regulate the amount of glucose in the blood. Insulin is produced in the pancreas and released into the blood when the amount of glucose rises. Incorrect levels of glucose in the blood therefore could be an indication of diabetes or other conditions.

This screening involves a finger prick to obtain a small sample of blood which is put onto a strip and then it is analysed by a machine in store which reads the level of glucose in the blood.

This process of reading the sample takes 1 minute.
